Junior Sailing Week

14th August 2019

Junior Sailing Week

The last week of July saw 38 children congregating at the Club for a week of relaxed training, racing and the famous Dittisham Picnic Expedition.

Blessed with good weather the group was split into three groups to sail the Club’s Quests (Beginners), Toppers and Teras (Intermediate) and Fevas (Advanced). Five consecutive days on the water led to big advances in technique for all participants, consolidating existing skills and in several cases, progressing to higher RYA certifications.

Training culminated on the Thursday with a glorious expedition up river to Dittisham for lunch. Favourable tides and winds led to great sailing conditions and a complete absence of mud! An impromptu diving competition was a highlight for many.

The River Dart Cup was contested on the Friday. A fine display of concentration and focus led Max Churchill to over-all victory and much deserved silverware.

Many thanks to Dan Taylor for leading the training activities and to all Instructors and Assistant Instructors who assisted him, many of them Juniors themselves and a product of the club’s training instructor training activities over the summer.
