Preparations are well under way for the 175th Dartmouth Royal Regatta. At the end of the earlybird discount period, entries were slightly up on last year, so we are sure of keen competition and a lively atmosphere throughout. For those of you who have entered the Pilot Financial Senior Dinghy series, the Savills Passage Race or the Yacht & Keelboat series, Sailing Instructions are now available on our website (http://www.dartmouthsailingweek.com/Race-documents). And if you haven’t entered yet, there is still time – check the Notices of Race for the deadlines for late entries. For yachts with a little more time in hand, why not add on one of our more informal events before or after the main racing? What better way to start the week than the White Sail Event. On Sunday 25th, sail a course in magnificent Start Bay with lively competition but without the stresses of a racing start, ideal for family or short-handed crews as spinnakers are not allowed. Then on Bank Holiday Monday, try the light-hearted Cruising Skills Competition. For an idea of what to expect, take a look at last year’s activities (ranging from traditional seamanship like man overboard practice or dropping the anchor, to fun family frolics like swimming round the boat or catching a fish) at http://www.dartmouthsailingweek.com/races-and-events, but watch out for new challenges this year! And at the end of the week, there is the Sunday Funday Race. Sponsored again by Salcombe Gin, this race with a difference was thoroughly enjoyed by those who took part in the inaugural race last year. There will be a normal start and a fixed first leg, but then yachts will have to decide for themselves which order to round the remaining 5 buoys while completing 3 laps. Full details in the back of the Series SIs, and on the website. We look forward to welcoming you to the River Dart later this month. JRSC Committee |
