Group Information
Our cruising members take the opportunity to enjoy both our local cruising grounds and those further afield. These enterprising voyagers also engage in our full programme of social events both on and off the water.
All members are welcome as one of the key aims of the cruising section is to get folk out on the water together with an emphasis on having a good time. Destinations last summer included Teignmouth, Salcombe and Plymouth.
During the winter or early spring, we organise a weekend of lectures and practical training - such as the man overboard recovery session shown in one of the photos below.
This group has the ability and objective to connect members and boats and open up new friendships and crewing opportunities. Organising trips on this basis also provides the opportunity for less experienced skippers and crew to sail in the company of more the experienced. A warm welcome is always guaranteed for new members!
We are also making efforts this year to link cruising trips to local events e.g. a trip to Teignmouth while the local folk Festival is on or to Plymouth to view the National Fireworks Championships.
The group is facilitated by the cruising co-ordinator who helps with emails and general organisation and individual events are run by different volunteers. To enable communications and access for all, regular emails are sent to share details of forthcoming trips and events and a full programme is available on the website. Please do inform RDYC office if you wish to be included in the Cruising Section and we will ensure that you receive the email updates.
