A review of our March ‘Dine by the Dart Tasting Evening’ by club member Caroline Burgess
Members made their way down to the RDYC on a March Saturday evening where thankfully the wet and windy weather had temporarily abated.
There was a genial hubbub as gentlemen, smart in suits and ladies, beautiful in dresses, gathered in the bar for pre dinner drinks, all looking forward to our Dine by the Dart Tasting Menu. At around 7pm we all made our way upstairs to the Quarterdeck where tables were temptingly set out with an array of cutlery for our 6 course meal. Very shortly our lovely waiters and waitresses arrived bearing our first treat – an amuse bouche of scallop on pea purée with chorizo.
Then to our first course of burrata with broad beans and pesto. This was followed by sea bass with crab sauce and crispy leeks, and we then enjoyed lamb rump with fondant and apricot Charlotte.
The wine was flowing and the atmosphere jolly, as we looked forward to our cheese course – a lovely slice of Brie butter on toast with honey and pistachio. Then to our dessert! A chocolate mousse cake nestled alongside maple and pecan ice cream and a caramelised puff pastry.
We all enjoyed coffee (decaffeinated for some!) and somehow found room for the lovely petit four of coconut truffles, mint and chocolate muffins and elderflower jelly that arrived with it. Replete, we happy diners made our way back down to the bar where we could all relax with a cheeky digestif to end the evening.
A thoroughly enjoyable occasion and big thanks to Mark and his super team for looking after us. The timings were just right and the food delicious!
